Ties between Russia and the Republic of Congo have “good prospects” for development, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday as he met his Congolese counterpart Denis Sassou Nguesso in Moscow, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

“We have good prospects for developing our relations, and in various areas,” Putin said in opening remarks ahead of the meeting.

Expressing confidence that his Congolese counterpart’s visit to Russia will contribute to the development of bilateral relations, Putin said their prospects in the economic sphere include geological exploration, energy, logistics, and agriculture.

Putin said Russian companies wish to work in the Congolese market, citing the stable political situation in the Central African country, which creates “good business prospects.”

The Russian president also congratulated Nguesso on his re-election for a fifth term last month.

Nguesso said the purpose of his visit to Moscow is to strengthen bilateral relations, noting Moscow and Brazzaville have “all the conditions in place” for successfully implementing joint projects.

“We are exploring new projects that can be developed, including with the support of the Russian Federation,” Nguesso said, adding that their ties have been developing “for many decades” across multiple areas, including security, defense, and the economy.
