Russian President Vladimir Putin received his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and his accompanying delegation in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We are working on developing relations with Syria in various fields," Putin said, adding, "Our relations with Syria have deep roots, and we continue to work on their growth."
"We have much to do regarding the issue of reconstruction, and we are ready to contribute to the rebuilding of Syria." Putin continued, stressing, "We support your efforts in maintaining the unity of Syria."
The Russian President further noted: "Russia and Syria have succeeded in elevating the level of economic cooperation; this is significant progress that must be maintained."
For his part, Syrian President stated: "Syria has a role in achieving stability for the entire region," expressing his gratitude to Putin for his assistance in stabilizing the situation in Syria and the region.
He added, "We hope for continued Russian support for Syria's unity."
Earlier on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the negotiations between the two leaders would include a working lunch and a "separate one-on-one conversation."
