Russian President Vladimir Putin said BRICS member states have significantly increased their high-technology exports since the bloc's creation, underscoring the grouping's expanding role in the global economy and innovation sectors, according to TV BRICS.

In his remarks at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said cooperation among BRICS nations had strengthened economic ties, boosted industrial capabilities and contributed to the growth of technology-intensive industries across member states.

He noted that the bloc's economic weight continues to rise as emerging markets play a larger role in global trade, investment and manufacturing.

Putin's remarks come as BRICS countries intensify efforts to deepen cooperation in areas including advanced technologies, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and industrial development, amid broader shifts in the global economic landscape.

Originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, the bloc has expanded its membership in recent years and increasingly positions itself as a leading voice for emerging economies and the Global South.
