Russian President Vladimir Putin sent, Thursday, his first public comments on the death of the leader of the Wagner group Yevgeny Prigozhin after he was killed in a plane crash.

Putin said that he sent his condolences to “Wagner Group employees” who died in the same accident, on Wednesday.

The crash took place in Moscow and killed everyone on board, according to Russia’s aviation agency, including Prigozhin.

Putin said in his meeting with the head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin: “First of all, I want to express my sincere condolences to the families of all the victims, this is always a tragedy. Indeed, if they were there, it seems … preliminary information suggests that Wagner Group employees were also on board."

The Russian President added that he’d known the Wagner chief “for a very long time,” and he was “a talented man, a talented businessman.”

“He was a man of difficult fate, and he made serious mistakes in life, and he achieved the results needed both for himself and when I asked him about it – for a common cause, as in these last months,” he added.

The crash of Prigozhin’s plane took place two months after Prigozhin and Wagner rebelled against Putin in a very fast rebellious action that ended with the return of the Wagner troops to their spots, and ending their rebellion.
