Kremlin said, on Wednesday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Venezuela with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, over phone.

In press statement, The Kremlin added,"During the call, the two presidents exchanged views on current international issues, focusing on the situation surrounding Venezuela."

"They emphasized the convergence of fundamental principles between Russia and Brazil regarding ensuring Venezuela's sovereignty and national interests," the statement read.

On January 3, the United States launched a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and taken to New York.

US authorities accused them of engaging in "narco-terrorism" and posing a threat to US national security. Their initial court appearance was held in New York, where they pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Following the operation, former Vice President Delcy Rodríguez assumed the interim presidency of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan Ministry of Defense announced that the US attack resulted in the deaths of 100 people.

The US operation in Venezuela provoked negative reactions worldwide.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its full solidarity with the Venezuelan people and called for the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, as well as an end to further escalation.

China joined this stance, asserting that the US actions "violate international law" and calling for their immediate release.
