The African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), currently chaired by Egypt, has reaffirmed the bloc’s firm rejection of what it described as attempts to establish a so-called parallel government in Sudan.
In two separate statements addressing developments in Sudan and Somalia, the Council underscored the importance of respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. The PSC stressed the need to intensify regional and international support to address the root causes of crises and achieve sustainable security across the region.
The Council reiterated its strong condemnation of external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and renewed the African Union’s categorical rejection of any unilateral steps aimed at undermining Sudan’s unity, including the formation of what it termed a “parallel government.”
Regarding Somalia, the PSC voiced strong opposition to unilateral recognition of the self-declared region of Somaliland by Israel, describing such moves as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring developments in both Sudan and Somalia and pledged to activate all available African Union mechanisms to support political solutions and preserve regional stability.
