Demonstrators continued to block roads across Lebanon on Tuesday to protest the financial collapse and political impasse in the country, despite President Michel Aoun's call for security forces to remove barriers.
Lebanon`s President Michel Aoun spoke after a meeting with top security officials on Monday, but demonstrators burned tires and urged more people to join them on Tuesday. They blocked a major highway leading south from Beirut as well as areas in the capital and around the northern city of Tripoli.
General Joseph Aoun, the army's chief of staff, said on Monday that the right to peaceful protest would be secured, barring harm to public or private property, but cautioned troops not to get caught up in politics.
