The Prosecutor General, Counselor Mohamed Shawky, received European Union Special Representative for Human Rights at his office, on Tuesday, accompanied by a high-level EU delegation.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Prosecutor General's office for International Cooperation, Human Rights, and Judicial Inspection departments, as well as Ambassador Khaled El-Bakly, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights and International Humanitarian and Social Affairs.

At the outset of the meeting, a presentation prepared by the Director of the Human Rights and Judgement Enforcement Department at the Prosecutor General's Office was given, reviewing the existing axes of cooperation and the mechanisms for ensuring human rights within the Public Prosecution system.

The Prosecutor General discussed the legislative amendments contained in the Code of Criminal Procedure to support the human rights file, and the effective guarantees taken by the Public Prosecution in this field, which included inspection and oversight of rehabilitation and correctional centers, reviewing the status of pre-trial detainees, and other related files.

The meeting also addressed ways to enhance future cooperation between the Public Prosecution and the European Union in various fields, and the Egyptian Public Prosecution's keenness to build an effective rapprochement that supports human and national interests, particularly the human rights file.

Concluding the meeting, the Prosecutor General and the EU Representative expressed their satisfaction with the preliminary outcomes of the discussion and agreed to continue dialogue and activate joint executive steps, in light of the Arab Republic of Egypt's international commitments in the field of human rights.
