The installed renewable energy capacity in India has increased from 115.94 GW in March 2018 to 172.00 GW in March 2023, i.e., an increase of around 48%.

According to India’s Central Electricity Authority (CEA), 365.60 Billion Units (BU) of electricity have been generated during the year 2022-23, from renewable energy sources across the country.

According to ‘Renewable Energy Statistics 2023’, released by the International Energy Agency (IRENA), India has the fourth largest Installed Capacity of renewable energy globally.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, on 09 October 2022, dedicated India’s first Battery Storage and Solar Power based ‘Suryagram’ – “Modhera” in Gujarat to the national. Under the project, a 6 MW ground-mounted solar power plant with 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System and Rooftop Solar systems (on all feasible household and Government buildings) are providing round-the-clock solar power to the entire Modhera village, which has a population of around 6,500 people.

The installed capacity for renewable, in India, include Solar Power (approx. 70 GW), Wind Power (approx. 43 GW) and Hydro (approx. 50 GW). India has set a target to reduce the carbon intensity of the nation’s economy by less than 45% by the end of the decade, to achieve 50% cumulative electric power installed by 2030 from renewable, and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. India aims for 500 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030.
