The Palestinian Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs said that the Israeli authorities used excessive force, beatings, and abuse against young men during their arrest.

In a press statement on Thursday, it explained that the forces committed daily violations and methods of torture against young people, whether when they are arrested or detained inside prisons, which constitutes a disgrace against international and humanitarian institutions that are unable to provide them with protection.

The Commission documented that citizen Youssef Atallah Makharza (60 years old), who lives in the town of Abu Dis, was abused and beaten by the occupation soldiers following his arrest last October.

According to the Commission’s lawyer, the occupation army raided Makharza’s house when he was not present, and the soldiers beat his sons. He went and surrendered himself the next morning, and was transferred to “Megiddo” prison.

The lawyer reported, quoting the detainee, that from the moment he arrived at the prison, 7 jailers violently beat him all over his body while he was handcuffed, which led to him suffering severe bruises and a fracture in his left foot. He was left without treatment, and after 8 days blood exploded in his foot, so he was transferred.

He went to the Ramla prison clinic, and the doctor treated his wound but did not treat the fracture, this caused him severe pain and great difficulty in movement, knowing that he was sick with the prostate and sinuses, and needed medications and medical care.

The Commission also documented the circumstances of the arrest of the young man Baraa Khalil Shaar from the city of Al-Bireh, who was arrested from his home after a large force of special units raided his house, severely beat him, and while taking him, transported him on foot to an occupation army camp, after which he was transferred to Ofer prison. During the transfer, he was not spared from being beaten, which caused him to suffer many bruises and bruises.

It added, that the detainee Safwan Abu Sneineh from the city of Hebron was also assaulted and beaten in the yard of the “Etzion” detention center while he was handcuffed to the back and blindfolded. He was beaten all over his body, and the soldiers used batons and rifle butts to assault him and 20 other detainees. With him, which led to him suffering bruises all over his body and wounds to his nose.

The detainee Moatasem Shawamreh, who was arrested after the occupation stormed his house and was assaulted, was beaten from the moment of his arrest until he arrived at Ofer Prison in the evening hours.

On the 15th of this month, he was transferred for investigation, and there he was severely beaten by the so-called “Nahshon” forces, which led to his death. He suffered head injuries.
