Catherine, Princess of Wales, is set to make her first official overseas royal visit since undergoing cancer treatment, marking a significant step in her gradual return to public duties, Kensington Palace confirmed.
The Princess will travel to Italy next week for a solo two-day visit on May 13 and 14, with her schedule focused on early childhood development, a long-standing priority in her public work.
During the trip to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, she is expected to engage with educators, parents, children, local officials, and business leaders. The region is internationally known for its child development model, which emphasizes play-based learning, strong emotional environments, and nurturing relationships between children and adults.
A Kensington Palace spokesperson said the Princess is looking forward to the visit, noting her interest in seeing how the Reggio Emilia approach supports children’s growth by combining nature, learning, and emotional care.
This will be her first overseas engagement since December 2022, when she traveled to Boston alongside Prince William for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.
The upcoming trip is also seen as part of her gradual return to full royal duties following her health challenges. In 2024, she revealed she had undergone chemotherapy for cancer and later confirmed she was in remission. Since then, she has spoken publicly about her recovery journey, describing the physical and emotional challenges of treatment and recovery.
Catherine has significantly reduced her public workload in recent years but has slowly resumed engagements as her health improved. The Italy visit is expected to reflect her continued focus on rebuilding her official role while prioritizing recovery.
