On Friday, Prince William, the Prince of Wales and Crown Prince of the United Kingdom, participated for the first time in a major royal service as the first in the line to the throne, alongside the reigning monarch, King Charles III.

The King and the Prince attended the Order of the Bath Service at Westminster Abbey. The services were for the order's 300th anniversary.

This was King Charles' first service as sovereign and the first for Prince William as an heir to the throne.

The occasion featured Prince William taking over the title of Great Master of the Order from his father. The title was given to King Charles back in 1975 during his run as a Prince of Wales from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Additionally, the Order of the Bath Service involved the installation and oath-taking of five knights.

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared photos from the history-making event via Instagram.

The official account of Prince William and Kate Middleton posted, "Celebrating the 300th anniversary of Order of the Bath. For three centuries, the order has recognised exceptional military and civil achievements across the UK and the Commonwealth.

The Prince of Wales was installed as Great Master of the order and five new Knights Grand Cross took their oaths during the event at Westminster Abbey."
