The Prince and Princess of Wales have released their official Christmas card photo for this year, featuring a warm family portrait taken in spring.
The image, shared by Kensington Palace, shows Prince William and Catherine with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, standing outdoors with daffodils blooming in the background.
The caption accompanying the photo reads, “Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas.”
The photograph was taken in April by professional photographer Josh Shinner.
It appears to have been shot on the same day as images later released for Prince George’s 12th birthday in July and Prince Louis’ 7th birthday in April, as both boys are wearing the same outfits: checked shirts, with George in a fleece gilet and Louis in a V-neck sweater.
In contrast, the photo released for Princess Charlotte’s 10th birthday in May was taken by her mother, Catherine.
The Princess of Wales is known as a keen amateur photographer and often takes and releases pictures of her children for special occasions.
On other occasions, well-known professional photographers such as Mario Testino, Chris Jackson, and Millie Pilkington have taken official family photos.
It is a long-standing tradition for senior members of the British royal family to share the Christmas cards they send to friends, family, and colleagues during the festive season.
Earlier this month, the King and Queen also released their Christmas card, which featured a photograph marking their 20th wedding anniversary.
Catherine has been gradually returning to royal duties after being diagnosed with cancer last year.
In September 2024, she announced that she had completed chemotherapy and was focusing on staying cancer-free. Prince William has previously described 2024 as the most difficult year of his life, as both his wife and his father underwent cancer treatment.
