Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, witnessed today at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina the celebration of "World Cities Day", which is being held in Alexandria, as part of Egypt's preparations to host the World Urban Forum in its twelfth session in Cairo, under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Local Development, on 4 to 8 November 2024.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, Ahmed Khaled, Governor of Alexandria, Anna Claudia Rosbach, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Organization, a number of ministers and governors, ambassadors and members of parliament, representatives of multilateral international banks, international organizations and bodies, and representatives of the private sector and civil society.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, affirmed the commitment of the Egyptian government to make significant progress in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially those related to climate and sustainable cities and communities, pointing out that according to the 2024 Sustainable Development Report. Egypt has advanced in the global rankings, ranking 83rd out of 166 countries, representing remarkable progress that confirms the success of national strategies.
