Egypt's Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, met with former Slovenian President Borut Pahor in the New Administrative Capital to discuss a partnership aimed at improving railway safety. The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Minister of Industry and Transport Lit. General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Slovenian Ambassador to Cairo Sašo Podlesnik, and LANcom CEO Miha Jurgec.
Dr. Madbouly welcomed the Slovenian delegation highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Egypt and Slovenia, as well as Egypt’s broader relations with the European Union. He expressed keen interest in collaborating with LANcom on a project to reduce railway accidents using artificial intelligence.
LANcom’s CEO, Miha Jugerts, emphasized his company’s long-standing interest in the Egyptian market and introduced its AI-driven railway accident prevention project. The proposed initiative involves equipping trains with advanced sensing technology to enhance safety. LANcom plans to finance the project through a Slovenian financial entity and execute it in collaboration with a local partner.
Eng. Al-Wazir welcomed the proposal acknowledging LANcom’s experience in railway safety. He noted that Egypt already works with international firms in railway information systems but is open to evaluating LANcom’s innovative contributions. It was agreed that a pilot project would be implemented on a selected railway line and its success would determine the feasibility of wider application.
The meeting concluded with Dr. Madbouly expressing optimism about the project’s potential to improve Egypt’s railway infrastructure. He instructed the formation of a technical team to discuss the project’s specifics and select a suitable location for the pilot implementation. This partnership marks a step toward enhancing railway safety in Egypt through advanced technology reflecting the country’s commitment to modernization and international collaboration.
