President Sisi Writes for Greek Newspaper “To Vima”

On his presidential visit to the Hellenic Republic, President Abdel Fattah Sisi wrote an article for the Greek newspaper “To Vima.”

Sisi opened his article by praising the mutual history between the ancient Egyptians and the Ancient Greeks. He highlighted, “The deep-rooted relationship between our two peoples since ancient times is the first thing that came to my mind while writing this article.”

He added the mutual relations between Egypt and Greece are social, cultural, and national levels more than the official level. Then, he exemplified the model of cooperation between Egypt and Greece as a role model of cooperation between two states in order to face the threats in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The ties between Egypt and Greece are based on the regulations of international law and a good neighborhood.

Concerning the latest maritime deal between Egypt and Greece, Sisi commented that this deal carries huge importance for both states as it widens the horizons of economic cooperation and it is strengthening the regional cooperation in the Mediterranean. Moreover, this deal followed the principles of the international law of Seas.

Also, the strong cooperation between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus helped in launching East MedGas Forum.

Egypt and Greece, aiming to stand together against any parties adapting expansion policies, causing violations, and threatening the peace of the region, hope to to cement this cooperation in addition to reflecting a strong international objection towards the behaviors of those who aim to transgress the national borders of friend countries and their sovereignty.

Then, he reviewed some of the regional crises such as the Libyan crisis, the Syrian war, and attaining peace in Palestine.

Regarding his visit to Greece, Sisi explained the reasons for his visit as it came during a sensitive period of religious discrimination after the spread of cartoons humiliating Prophet Mohamed and sparked various terroristic events.

Therefore, he calls for cooperation against terrorism and violence and raising the voice of wisdom, understanding, and acceptance of the other.

Finally, Sisi asserted the importance of the Greek-Egyptian ties that will help in facing the existed challenges for both people and achieving their hopes.

Today, President Sisi paid a presidential visit to Greece and held various meetings with the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
