The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received a phone call on Friday from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with discussions spanning Middle Eastern tensions and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to Egypt’s presidency, the call focused on the rapidly evolving regional landscape, with Sisi outlining Cairo’s intensified diplomatic efforts to contain escalating conflict and prevent further destabilization.
He stressed the urgent need to shield the region from deepening insecurity, warning of the far-reaching economic and trade repercussions of continued escalation at both regional and international levels.
During the conversation, Sisi emphasized the importance of coordinated international action to halt ongoing hostilities, calling for a collective push toward de-escalation.
He also reiterated Egypt’s firm stance rejecting violations of Arab sovereignty, condemning what he described as Iranian attacks on Arab states and underscoring Cairo’s support for preserving territorial integrity across the region.
Zelenskyy, on his part, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic outreach and its role in advocating for regional stability. He echoed concerns over the widening impact of ongoing tensions and outlined Ukraine’s own efforts to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
The leaders also revisited developments in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with Zelenskyy briefing Sisi on the latest military and political dynamics. He thanked Egypt for its balanced stance and its support for efforts aimed at ending the war.
Sisi reaffirmed Cairo’s consistent position that political solutions and dialogue remain the only viable path to resolving the conflict, reiterating Egypt’s backing for all initiatives seeking a negotiated settlement in the shortest possible timeframe.
Beyond immediate crises, the call also touched on strengthening bilateral ties between Egypt and Ukraine. Both leaders agreed to continue advancing cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, and food security, an area of particular importance given Ukraine’s role as a major global grain supplier.
They further signaled interest in exploring new avenues for partnership that could serve mutual economic interests and reinforce resilience amid global uncertainty.
