Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting on Thursday with head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) Walid Jumblatt, who is currently on a visit to Cairo, Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and head of the General Intelligence Service GIS Abbas Kamel.
During the meeting, President Sisi confirmed his pride over the deep relations between Egypt and Lebanon at the official and popular levels.
He also asserted Egypt’s keenness on maintaining Lebanon’s safety, security and stability.
President Sisi also praised Jumblatt’s role to maintain stability and balance in Lebanon.
On the other hand, Jumblatt confirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen the deep and strong historical ties between Lebanon and Egypt.
He also expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in supporting Lebanon in all fields, hailing the Egyptian pivotal role in maintaining stability not only in Lebanon but also in the whole Arab region.
The meeting dealt with means of enhancing the current bilateral cooperation frameworks, including the possibility of benefiting from the Egyptian expertise in a number of developmental areas.
The duo also stressed the importance of enhancing mutual trade exchange relations between the two countries during the coming period.
The meeting touched the situation in Syria and its regional impacts, as well as discussing the latest developments in the Palestinian issue.
In the same vein, they agreed on the importance of concerted efforts to end the current stalemate in the peace process and settle the Palestinian cause in a way that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people and guarantees their rights.
