Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna on Monday, in a meeting attended by Egypt's Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry.
Presidential spokesperson, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, highlighted the bilateral discussions which underscored the strategic significance of the relations between Egypt and France.
These relations span diverse areas, including economic, developmental, and cultural sectors. Furthermore, the two nations have been engaged in rigorous consultations on various political and security issues of mutual interest.
This collaborative spirit was evident in recent phone exchanges between President El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron, with the intention to bolster security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and Africa.
The meeting also delved into the recent developments concerning the military escalation in Gaza. France presented its perspective on the matter while appreciating Egypt's pivotal role in navigating this vital regional issue with wisdom and responsibility. Both parties concurred on the gravity of the current situation, emphasizing the imperative to prevent a broader conflict, protect civilians, and adhere to international humanitarian law.
President El-Sisi shed light on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities. This entails providing urgent humanitarian and relief responses to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
He stressed the necessity to de-escalate tensions and condemned policies that subject civilians to collective punishments, such as sieges, deprivation, or displacement.
The official spokesperson added that both sides also agreed on the urgency of international efforts towards a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue.
This resolution should be based on the two-state solution in line with international legitimacy, ultimately ensuring security and stability for all people in the region.
