Abou El-Enein Heads Mediterranean Parliaments Delegation to Syria

The Speaker of the Syrian Parliament, Hamouda Sabbagh, met today with a delegation representing the parliaments of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The delegation is headed by Muhammad Aboul Enein, the Honorary Speaker of the Mediterranean Parliament, and the Deputy Chair of the Egyptian House of Representatives (Parliament).

Sabbagh stressed the importance of the role of the Mediterranean Parliament in bringing the views of parliaments together and contributing to conveying the true picture of what is happening in Syria to the rest of the parliaments in the world.

Sabbagh pointed to the Syrian parliament's keenness to participate in international parliamentary conferences and to coordinate joint work to serve the people of the region and the world.

The head of the Syrian Assembly reviewed with the delegation what Syria had been exposed to during the past years in terms of a terrorist war that aims to divide Syria and control its capabilities.

The Syrian parliamentarian pointed out that the American occupier stole the wealth of the eastern region of Syria, and the Turkish occupation cut drinking water off more than a million Syrian citizens in Al-Hasakah Governorate, in addition to what the Israeli occupier is targeting civilians and infrastructure in Syria.

For his part, Aboul Enein, Deputy Chair of the Egyptian House of Representatives, stressed the importance of transferring the suffering of the Syrian people from the effects of economic sanctions to the world through the Mediterranean Parliament.

Aboul Enein praised the steadfastness of the Syrian people who have contributed to preserving a united and strong Syria, and who will be the motive in the future for its reconstruction and the creation of appropriate conditions for the return of refugees.

Aboul Enein gave an explanation of what the Arab Republic of Egypt had faced in confronting terrorism which tried to control the capabilities of the Egyptian people.

He noted the success of the Egyptian people as they rallied

around their leadership, which led to their exit from the crises they went through.

He wished that Syria would witness a comprehensive renaissance when security and stability would be restored to all its lands.

In turn, the members of the visiting delegation affirmed their support for Syria in the war on terrorism, pointing to the importance of the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening relations between countries.

They pointed

to the importance of Syria's participation in the upcoming meetings of the Mediterranean Parliament, and working together in Mediterranean countries to discuss the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, and facilitating the return of refugees to it

The meeting was attended by members of the Bureau of the Syrian People's Assembly

The delegation had met earlier today with members of the two bureaus of the Council and the Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Syrian Parliament, where the head and members of the delegation stressed the importance of exchanging views and promoting joint parliamentary action, in a way that serves the interest of the people and helps them overcome the effects of the humanitarian disasters they are exposed to.

The members of the delegation pointed out that Syria will return stronger than it was and take its natural place in all international forums

The members of the bureaus of the Council and the Committee called for more parliamentary efforts and sought to lift the unfair sanctions imposed on the Syrian people to alleviate their suffering.

The visiting delegation comprised Bilal Kassem, Vice-President of the Mediterranean Parliament, Gennaro Megliori, Honorary President of the Parliament (Italy), and Federica Lollo, Program Officer in Parliament. Translated by Ahmed Moamar
