President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in Niger late Saturday to attend African Union (AU) exceptional summit in the light of Egypt’s current presidency of AU.
El Sisi is set to chair the summit, which will take place later today, Sunday to launch the operational phase of the African Continental Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
El Sisi was received by Niger president Mohamadou Issoufou, and members of Egyptian embassy in Niamey at the airport.

“The summit will witness the launching of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) after it surpassed the threshold of 22 ratifications by AU Member States,” Presidency spokesman Bassam Radi said.
He added that AfCFTA represents a milestone in the process of economic integration in the continent and will contribute to creating the largest free trade zone in the world.
“The agreement aims at maximizing investment opportunities, as well as supporting development in the continent,” Radi confirmed.
