U.S. President Joe Biden watched the France-Morocco match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, hailing the Atlas Lions’ "remarkable" performance during the tournament.
“It was a great honor to watch today’s World Cup match alongside Prime Minister Akhannouch of Morocco,” Biden wrote on Twitter. “No matter who you’re rooting for, it was remarkable to watch how much this team has been able to achieve.”
The tweet was attached to a picture of the American President setting with other leaders in front of the big screen watching the historic game.
Ahead of the World Cup match between France and Morocco, Biden delivered a speech to around 50 heads of state, including Liberian President and former professional footballer George Weah.
"I know you're saying to yourselves, make it short, Biden, there's a semi-final game coming up. I get it," he said to laughter and applause.
The American leader is credited for highlighting the strength of Africa through the Atlas Lions, whose performance was a global consensus, and whose moral behavior was universally praised.
Biden understood that friendships are formed through these steps, which stresses the concept of respecting and appreciating the culture and religion of other people.
In the same vein, the British daily newspaper The Guardian wrote that Moroccans’ religious rituals during the Qatar 2022 World Cup matches, which emphasize their pride in Islam, “inspiring ecstatic celebrations throughout the Muslim world.”
“Morocco is a Muslim country, and before the last-16 penalty shootout against Spain, the players recited Surah al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Qur’an,” the British daily newspaper highlighted.
The news outlet added: “After securing passage to the quarter-final and also after winning it, the squad ran to their fans and prostrated themselves in prayer – in the process, declaring to the planet not only their pride in being Moroccan but their pride in Islam, inspiring ecstatic celebrations throughout the Muslim world.”
The Guardian further asserted that watching the “Moroccan players paying homage to Allah before applying Allah’s teaching to pay homage to their mothers – who were wearing hijab! At the game! On global television! – was not only beautiful, moving, and uplifting, but important, crystallizing the crux of international competition.”
In this regard, the Mondial was considered a chance to “learn about different cultures; to share love by celebrating difference; to make the world a better place.”
What the American president did while watching the Morocco-France match was a posture of African, Arab, and Islamic praise. This comes within the framework of the US-Africa summit in Washington that was hosted a few days ago in Washington.
Nearly 50 African leaders participated in the summit, as the US is trying to remedy the delay in its active presence in the African continent and stop the Chinese as well as the Russian expansion in the continent.
The continent has a population of over one billion people, representing 15% of the world’s population. To be continued.
