The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has issued a grave warning about an imminent health catastrophe in Gaza, as the continued blockade and targeting of medical infrastructure threaten to halt ambulance services in the embattled territory.
In a televised interview, Raed Al-Nems, Media Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Gaza, said that ambulance crews are working tirelessly around the clock, despite ongoing Israeli attacks. He added that most hospitals in northern Gaza have collapsed due to sustained bombardment and an ongoing siege, severely hindering emergency response efforts.
Al-Nems reported that Israeli forces have deliberately targeted medical facilities and staff, leading to the destruction or disabling of more than six hospitals and approximately 56 primary healthcare centers.
He warned that the severe shortage of fuel and spare parts for ambulances could bring emergency medical transport to a complete halt, triggering a major health disaster.
Despite the escalating dangers, PRCS teams continue to provide emergency services in northern Gaza. They are transferring the wounded to Al-Shifa Hospital, the Saraya Field Hospital, and the Advanced Medical Post in the north, while some critical cases are being treated at Al-Quds Hospital in Tel Al-Hawa.
Al-Nems emphasized that the continued closure of border crossings for over two and a half months has prevented the entry of humanitarian aid and essential medical supplies. This, he said, has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation and severely hindered the ability of medical teams to respond amid ongoing military aggression and direct targeting of medics and health facilities.
The PRCS calls on the international community to intervene urgently to prevent a full-scale collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system.
