A power outage at JFK Airport in New York City has led to the cancellation of a number of flights and the divertation of other aircraft.

International flights were grounded at Terminal 1 at JFK Airport on Thursday when a fire caused a power outage. Passengers were asked to fly to alternative airports or to delay their travel.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a statement " that a malfunction in the electrical panel led to a small fire that did not spread to the airport, and it was immediately extinguished,".

According to the airport's website, international flights arriving on Thursday have been diverted to other airports on the east coast of the United States, including Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, Logan International Airport in Boston, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
