A widespread power outage plunged the city of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, into darkness on Saturday evening, with electricity cut simultaneously across the entire city, according to local witnesses.
Nukissiorfiit, the local electricity provider, said the outage was caused by what it described as an incident and confirmed that efforts were underway to secure backup power supplies. The company did not provide further details on the nature of the disruption.
Residents reported that the blackout occurred at the same time in all neighborhoods, affecting homes, businesses, and public services.
Both Nukissiorfiit and the Greenland Police issued statements on Facebook acknowledging the power cut, but neither offered additional information about the cause of the incident.
Authorities have not said how long restoration efforts are expected to take, as crews continue to work to stabilize the electricity network in the Arctic capital.
