The murder of South Korean influencer Yoon Ji has sent shockwaves across both local and international communities after her body was discovered on September 11 on a mountain slope in Muju County, showing clear signs of severe bruising, according to Argentina’s Infobae.
The crime took place less than 30 minutes after Yoon Ji had gone live on TikTok from Yeongjong Island near Incheon, more than 200 kilometres away from where her body was later found.
During the live stream, watched by over 300,000 followers, Yoon Ji appeared cheerful and interacted casually with her audience.
After that, her family reported her missing. Two days after the search began, police confirmed her death, launching an investigation that unveiled complicated issues.
Authorities identified a prime suspect, a man in his fifties named Choi, who was one of her fans and followers, and he also claimed being a tech entrepreneur.
He had previously contacted Yoon Ji and other online creators, offering them business partnerships and financial backing.
However, investigators later revealed that Choi is facing a financial crisis. He was also known for deceptive tactics to befriend influencers, often making lavish donations to gain their trust.
Yoon Ji’s professional relationship with Choi began when he proposed a collaboration to boost her social media reach.
But after discovering the truth about his financial troubles, she terminated their agreement on September 10, a day before her death.
After the murder, Choi attempted to hide his actions, dressing up with a suitcase and taking several stops to misdirect the police before he left Yoon's body on the mountainside.
He was captured 12 hours after the incident. He first claimed that he was innocent but later admitted it.
