Pope Leo XIV stated on Sunday that peace in Ukraine "cannot be postponed," speaking just two days before the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian military operation.
In his weekly address to the faithful in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, the Pope said: "Four years have now passed since the beginning of the war against Ukraine... how many victims, how many broken lives and families, and how much destruction!"
He added: "Peace cannot be postponed; it is an urgent matter that must find a place in hearts and be translated into responsible decisions."
He renewed his call to "reach a ceasefire without delay, and for dialogue to be strengthened to pave the way for peace."
The Pope's remarks came hours after a Russian missile and drone attack on several Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the invasion on February 24.
