During his first Easter Mass as the Sovereign of the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV called on Sunday for a steadfast commitment to hope in the face of the violence of war and urged renewed global efforts to establish peace.
According to Vatican News, Pope Leo XIV cited the words of his predecessor, Pope Francis, warning against falling into a state of indifference toward "ongoing injustice, evil, and cruelty."
He remarked that in the midst of darkness, something new is always born, which sooner or later bears fruit.
The Pope also called for an end to hostilities, directing specific criticism toward those who wage wars and exploit the vulnerable.
