Pope Francis is going to spend three days in South Sudan on an ecumenical pilgrimage for peace with the Archbishop of Canterbury after ending his visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo this afternoon.
The Vatican News website indicated that this is the first visit by the Pope to South Sudan, and the Pope said before the start of his tour in African countries that "his people are looking forward to a better future that will only be achieved through reconciliation and peace."
Tens of thousands of residents of various cities in soutt Sudan flocked to the capital, Juba, using minibuses, vans, bicycles, and some on foot.
