Pope Francies Considering Visiting Ukraine

Pope Francies is considering a visit to Kyiv, the Capital of Ukraine, he said on Saturday.

The statements of the head of the Catholic Church made during his trip from Rome to Malta as he was asked if he plans to visit Ukraine amid the military operation in Ukraine.

The official has received several invitations from political and religious groups in Ukraine since the beginning of the escalations between both countries which left thousands of casualties behind, and million of refugees.

He responded “Yes, it is on the table”.

In the same context, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths will conduct a visit to Kyiv and Moscow on April 3 to discuss the Ukraine crisis, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Friday.

Guterres said that Griffiths “will be flying to Moscow on Sunday. And after that, he will be going to Kyiv.”

“Which means that we don’t give up on the perspective of stopping the fighting in Ukraine and everywhere else in the world,” he added.

Russia announced that it will hold a new round of negotiations with Ukraine on Friday, amid the military operation launched by Moscow in Ukraine on February 24.

The head of the Russian delegation in the negotiations, Vladimir Medinsky, published in “Telegram” a picture showing members of the Moscow and Kyiv delegations, holding a virtual meeting, Russia Today reported.

The UN announced on Wednesday that more than 4 million refugees evacuated Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian military operation.

“Refugees from Ukraine are now 4 million, five weeks after the start of the Russian attack,” said Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Grandi added that he has arrived in Ukraine, where he will discuss with the authorities, the United Nations, and other partners to increase support for the people affected by the war.
