US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has asked the protesters in Iran to send any videos, photos and information documenting the authorities' abuses against them.
In a tweet, Pompeo said:” I have asked the Iranian protesters to send us their videos, photos and information documenting the regime’s crackdown on protesters. The US will expose and sanction the abuses.”
On Thursday, United States (US) Vice-President Mike Pence said that US supports the protests currently taking place in Iran since last week against rising fuel prices in the country.
In a tweet, Pence criticized the Iranian authorities’ use of repression policy against peaceful protesters who came out to demand better living conditions.
“As Iranians take to the streets in protest, the Ayatollahs in Tehran continue to use violence and imprisonment to oppress their people,” he tweeted. “The United States Message is clear: the American people stand with the people of Iran.”
It is worth mentioning that, protests erupted in Iran last Friday, hours after it was announced the price of petrol would rise to 15,000 rials a liter (12 US cents) from 10,000 for the first 60 liters and to 30,000 rials for any extra fuel bought after that each month.
Pompeo said in response to the demonstrations that have been erupted in Iran“the US is with you”.
Iran has denounced the US support for protests recently staged in the country by a group of rioters, accusing Washington of interfering in its internal affairs.
In December 2018, Iran President Hassan Rouhani tried to increase fuel prices, but the Shura Council blocked the adoption of the resolution as the country was shaken by unprecedented demonstrations triggered by austerity measures.
