The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has invited Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to participate in the G7 summit next week, Politico reported.

According to officials cited by the newspaper, the invitation is part of ongoing efforts to engage several Gulf leaders in discussions regarding regional security and ways to ensure the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions in the region.

The report noted that the Emir of Qatar has agreed to participate in the summit, while it remains unclear whether the Saudi Crown Prince will attend the meetings.

Politico added that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will also participate in the discussions in his capacity as a representative of one of the G7's partner nations.

Furthermore, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa is expected to attend the summit as a guest, according to an earlier report by Reuters citing informed sources. This would mark Syria's first-ever participation in a G7 summit since the group's establishment in 1975.

It is worth mentioning that, the summit is scheduled to take place from June 15 to 17 in the resort town of Evian, located in southeastern France.
