A Pakistani police officer was killed in north-western Pakistan after armed militants from the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacked his home in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to a statement released by local police on Wednesday, a group of militants stormed the officer’s residence late on Tuesday night.
The officer was killed while resisting the assault. Security forces quickly sealed off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, Pakistani security forces killed nine militants during a counter-terrorism operation in Dir, also in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The police said the operation was based on intelligence reports that identified the presence of a terrorist cell in the region. The militants were confirmed to be members of a banned terrorist organization.
Authorities added that sweeping security operations are continuing across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to clear the province of remaining militant elements, as Pakistan faces a resurgence of terrorist activity linked to the TTP.
