Poland’s health authorities announced plans to provide free COVID-19 vaccinations to citizens as the country experiences higher infection rates compared to last year.
According to Polish Radio on Tuesday, around one million doses of the Moderna vaccine are expected to arrive this month. The shipment has been secured through a joint purchase agreement with the European Union.
Officials urged elderly people and those with chronic illnesses to get vaccinated, noting that the formula has been updated to cover new variants.
The move comes as the “Nimbus” variant has begun spreading across Asia, the United States, and Europe. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the strain often causes severe throat inflammation, particularly in younger individuals, though it is not considered more dangerous than earlier Omicron subvariants.
