Poland temporarily closed two airports in its southeast on Saturday after military air operations were carried out in Polish airspace in response to attacks on targets inside Ukraine, according to the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA).
The agency said that Rzeszów Airport and Lublin Airport were shut to civilian traffic as Polish and allied military aircraft conducted operations aimed at ensuring airspace security following developments related to the war in neighboring Ukraine.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, PANSA explained that the decision was taken to guarantee the unrestricted movement of military aviation during the operations, making the temporary suspension of civilian flights necessary.
The agency added that once the military activities concluded, both airports resumed normal operations and air traffic returned to standard levels.
The brief closures highlight the direct impact of the ongoing Ukraine war on regional aviation and security across Eastern Europe, particularly in NATO member states bordering the conflict zone.
