Poland has formally asked the United States to establish a permanent military base on its territory, aiming to strengthen long-term security cooperation amid shifting US defense commitments in Europe.

Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said he had submitted an official proposal to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, arguing that American engagement in Poland’s security could expand further.

The proposal follows Washington’s decision to deploy an additional 5,000 US troops to Poland. Around 10,000 American troops are already stationed in the country, alongside a permanent US Army garrison and a missile defense facility.

The move revives Warsaw’s long-standing ambition to host a permanent US base. In 2018, Poland proposed the creation of "Fort Trump" and offered up to $2 billion to help fund the project, although the plan was never implemented.

The request comes amid debate over the future of US military deployments in Europe. Polish leaders across the political spectrum have welcomed recent increases in the American military presence, viewing them as a key pillar of national and regional security.
