Poland has announced plans to help secure supplies of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Ukraine as part of an expanded energy partnership with the United States.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed the initiative during a press briefing following a meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

Tusk stated that discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the LNG sector, emphasizing that Poland is one of the largest investors in gas infrastructure and a major importer of US LNG.

He added that the talks included the possibility of supplying American gas to Ukraine through Polish-American collaboration without requiring additional costs for Kyiv.

The announcement comes at a critical time for Ukraine. Last week, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said his government is seeking €270 million in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to purchase gas in preparation for the upcoming winter heating season.

Meanwhile, in related developments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that if the United States were to take control of Ukraine's gas transmission network — a key link between Russia and Europe — Russian energy giant Gazprom would be willing to negotiate new supply contracts with the new operators.

Peskov added that Moscow is aware of the willingness of some European countries to continue purchasing Russian gas and affirmed Russia’s readiness to negotiate under market conditions.
