Poland not to Deploy Military Troops to Greenland

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland won't deploy soldiers to Greenland amid rising tensions over the strategically important Arctic territory, warning that an attack by one NATO member on another would be “the end of the world as we know it.”

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Tusk emphasized that Poland has no plans to follow France, Germany, or the Nordic countries in boosting military presence in Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark that is also part of the NATO alliance.

“We are not planning to send Polish soldiers to Greenland. A conflict, or an attempt to seize the territory of one NATO member by another, especially the United States, would be the end of the world as we know it, a world that has guaranteed our security for decades,” Tusk said.

The Polish leader’s comments come in the wake of recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly highlighted Greenland’s strategic significance to the US national security.

Trump has refused to rule out the use of force to take control of the island, suggesting that the United States might consider asserting ownership to prevent Russian or Chinese influence.

Tusk cautioned that any unilateral military intervention would shatter the foundations of Western security and could force Europe to develop a new security architecture.

If transatlantic relations, which he described as the foundation of our civilization, were to collapse, Europe would have to build a new security framework with partners who remain loyal to the Western project, he said.

Describing a potential U.S. military move as “a catastrophe from our point of view,” Tusk stressed that the NATO-based international order has historically restrained major global threats, from communism to terrorism.

However, he added that given the unpredictability of the Trump administration, no scenario can be fully ruled out.
