Netflix is developing a live-action "Pokémon" series.
In a press statement, sources close to the project revealed that "Lucifer" co-showrunner and EP Joe Henderson will executive produce and write the series.
Sources added that the project would be a live-action series akin to the 2019 movie “Detective Pikachu” starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith.
It was the first-ever live-action movie to be made, which was a box office success, grossing over $430 million worldwide.
The Japanese franchise, created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995, is centered on fictional creatures called “Pokémon", that are commonly captured and trained by humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, to battle other Pokémon for sport.
It has become a worldwide phenomenon since its first launch and is considered the most successful video game adaptation of all time, with over 1000 episodes broadcast and adapted for international television markets, running in 169 countries worldwide.
The franchise now encompasses multiple TV shows, movies, video games, trading card game, books, manga comics, and many more.
