PM, Iraqi Counterpart Discuss Joint Co-op

On Sunday, Prime Minister (PM) Moustafa Madbouly and his Iraqi counterpart, Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani held talks, during which a number of files of common interest were reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, and Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, as well as Dr. Fouad Muhammad Hussein, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Atheer Daoud Salman, Iraqi Minister of Trade, and Ahmed Nayef Rashid, Iraqi Ambassador to Egypt.

At the outset of the meeting, Madbouly welcomed Iraqi counterpart and and his accompanying delegation, expressing Egypt's aspiration to expand the frameworks of joint cooperation, in a way that serves the interests of both countries and the two brotherly peoples.

Moreover, Madbouly affirmed Egypt's full support for brotherly Iraq in its war against terrorism, praising its efforts to preserve its sovereignty, security and stability, as well as the role of Iraqi state institutions.

PM also hailed the distinguished relations between the two countries and the tangible development they have witnessed in recent years, whether at the bilateral level or within the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Jordan. 

FurFurthermor, the premier shedlight on the ongoing coordination between the competent authorities in the two countries to prepare well for holding the next session of the joint Higher Committee in May or June 2023 in Cairo.

Madbouly also highlighted the need to implement the outcomes of the previous sessions of the Joint Higher Committee, including  the signed agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), as well as the need to activate what was agreed upon between both ountries regarding the implementation of Egyptian companies for reconstruction projects in Iraq.

Regarding the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, PM expressed his aspiration for the joint projects that were agreed upon to enter into force as soon as possible.

On his part, the Iraqi PM expressed his pleasure at visiting Egypt, hailing the 'extended' and 'historic' ties between both countries.

In addition, Al-Sudani expressed his aspiration for a good preparation for the next session of the Joint Higher Committee, and to build on the previously reached understandings and agreements.

Moreover, Iraqi PM noted that discussions are underway to establish a logistical area on the border between Iraq and Jordan, to contribute to the provision of goods and products, and Egypt can benefit from it through providing Egyptian products to the Iraqi market.
