Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly directed officials on Thursday to exchange "tuk-tuk" with safe and licensed vehicles such as natural gas minivans.

This came during a meeting with Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharaawy as well as officials of bodies concerned.

The Ministry of Finance and bodies concerned will be tasked with putting the directives into effect.

The program is envisaged to yield positive feedback through the provision of safe transportation and the creation of thousands of job opportunities.

Madbouly added that a meeting be held soon with the tuk-tuk manufacturers to start converting their production lines to minivans, for example.

The governments and tuk-tuk manufacturers have already agreed on reducing the number of rickshaws produced, in preparation for the replacement program.
