Planning: 6.1 Million Egyptians Benefit from Comprehensive Health Insurance

A recent report released  by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that the first phase of the comprehensive health insurance system was implemented in 5 governorates across the country.

The report indicated that 6.1 million citizens benefited from the comprehensive health insurance system. The beneficiaries constitute about 6% of the Egyptian population, in addition to providing more than 11 million medical and treatment services to the beneficiaries of the comprehensive health insurance.

The report added that the number of surgeries that were carried out reached 175,000, in addition to dealing with more than 75,000 emergency cases.

The report revealed that 60 million citizens have benefited from the "100 million health" initiative, and the "eliminating waiting lists" initiative has completed more than 1.3 million waiting cases, in addition to performing surgeries in delicate specialties such as the brain, nerves and heart, and the cost of one operation amounted to approximately between 100-400 thousand pounds.
