Plane Carrying 72 People Crashes in Nepal

The crash scene was shown to be spewing out a thick black smoke in local TV footage. From the debris, which an army spokeswoman described as having "broken into bits," some remains have been found.

From the western Pokhara site, some bodies have been found.

An army spokeswoman confirmed that at least 16 people had died.

"We expect to recover more bodies," Krishna Bhandari said. "The plane has broken into pieces."

According to the airport representative, the twin-engine ATR 72 operated by Yeti Airlines was departing from Kathmandu.

Daily newspaper Kathmandu Post stated that it was carrying four crew members as well as 68 passengers.
