A pilot was killed when his small plane crashed shortly after takeoff in an area near Oldenburg, northern Germany, local police said this morning.
They reported that the plane crashed near Hatten Airport in an open area, where it was completely destroyed. Firefighters extinguished the resulting blaze.
According to police, the pilot was on a return flight to Switzerland, where he lived. The plane's emergency parachute system was not deployed. The cause of the crash is not yet known. Approximately 50 emergency personnel were deployed to the scene.
