A photo of the Sphinx at the Giza pyramids sparked widespread controversy on social media after some people wondered how the Sphinx's eyes were closed without human intervention.
A number of artists commented on the incident in a joking way; Mohammed Hendey posted a picture of his from a scene in "Ya Ana Ya Khalti" movie in which he was pouting down, with the caption "The Sphinx Now".
In like manner, actor Bassem Samra published a still from his movie, captioned "The Sphinx! Are you asleep my fellow?"
Meanwhile, neither the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities nor the Supreme Council of Antiquities has issued any official statement regarding the pictures circulating of the Sphinx on social media.
