The death toll from Tropical Storm Trami, which recently hit the northeastern part of Luzon, has risen to 125, while115 others were injured, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday.

The council added, according to the Philippine broadcaster ABS-CBN in its English-language bulletin, that 28 people are still missing due to the storm which has so far displaced more than 935,000 people and destroyed thousands of homes, crops and infrastructure.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has pledged to provide necessary assistance to residents of Camarines Sur province in the Bicol region, the hardest hit by the storm.

About 20 major storms and typhoons hit the Philippines or its surrounding waters each year, destroying homes and infrastructure and killing dozens of people.
