Philadelphia declared a state of emergency after severe thunderstorms swept through the city on Saturday evening, causing widespread damage, power outages, and flooding, according to the US National Weather Service.

Straight-line winds of 97–113 km/h uprooted trees, damaged homes and vehicles, flooded streets, and caused a building to collapse in west Philadelphia. Emergency crews and residents launched extensive clean-up efforts as authorities worked to restore essential services.

The US National Weather Service said the damage was caused by straight-line winds rather than a tornado as extreme weather continued to affect parts of the US.

Mayor Cherelle Parker said all available resources had been deployed to restore critical infrastructure, while rescue teams continued evacuating affected residents and clearing debris across the city.
