Egypt is moving forward with plans to launch a nationwide aerial survey for mineral resources, as part of broader efforts to modernize the mining sector and attract new investments.

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources met Sunday with the board of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority, chaired by geologist Yasser Ramadan, to review progress on completing procedures necessary to initiate the aerial minerals survey project across the country.

The meeting also assessed ongoing work plans in light of recent legislative amendments that transformed the authority into an economic entity, a move aimed at enhancing operational flexibility and boosting the sector’s competitiveness.

According to a ministry statement, discussions covered negotiations with several companies to inject fresh investments into gold and mineral exploration activities, alongside updates on newly issued licenses for exploration and exploitation of mining ores.

The talks further addressed cooperation with Egyptian and international firms under existing agreements to evaluate industrial projects designed to maximize value-added production, particularly from phosphate ore. The initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategy to facilitate mining investment and increase economic returns from Egypt’s mineral wealth.

Badawi underscored the importance of full coordination among board members and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies to develop an integrated strategy for the optimal utilization of the country’s mineral resources. He also directed that regular board meetings be held to ensure continuous follow-up on implementation plans.
