Petroleum Min. Discusses CO-OP Opportunities with S.Sudan

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tariq al-Mulla discussed with South Sudan's Minister of Petroleum Awow Daniel Chuang, who is currently visiting Egypt, the prospects of cooperation in the oil sector.

Al-Mulla affirmed Egypt's readiness and willingness to provide all the necessary expertise to South Sudan, contributing to the development of the promising petroleum industry in the African nation.

He pointed out that oil cooperation will be one of the important pillars during the coming period to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

He conveyed it to broader horizons in light of the joint desire of the political leadership of the two countries to strengthen cooperation at all levels.

The minister added that the talks witnessed the formation of a joint committee comprising experts from both countries to enhance cooperation during the coming period, especially in the activities of oil and gas research, refining, infrastructure, and training.

It was agreed that the working group will be concerned with setting priorities for action and mechanisms of cooperation in the sector.

This will contribute to achieving common benefits for both Egypt and South Sudan and achieve the highest added value of petroleum wealth.

He pointed out that the meeting discussed several areas of cooperation in the petroleum industry and the opening of prospects for Egyptian oil companies in South Sudan.

These include the entry of the Egyptian oil company Tharwa to work in the producing concession areas in southern Sudan.

The meeting witnessed the presentation of distinguished Egyptian expertise in the refining industry as well as in the field of establishing petroleum projects through specialized companies in the sector, including the distinct cadres in the field of engineering works and contracting for petroleum projects.

It was also agreed to establish an integrated system for the packaging of butane cylinders inside South Sudan, which currently depends on the import of bottled butane cylinders.

For his part, Awow Daniel Chuang expressed his appreciation to Egypt, and keenness to support South Sudan, contributing to raising the rates of development and exploitation of oil by providing all the expertise recognized by Egyptian companies.

He pointed out that South Sudan currently produces between 150-170 thousand barrels of oil per day and it is looking forward to increasing production levels through ambitious plans.

He stressed that his visit to Egypt is a historic opportunity for South Sudan to benefit from the Egyptian expertise in the oil industry, inviting al-Mullah to attend the South Sudan Oil and Energy Conference under the auspices of President Salva Kiir Mayardit on October 29-30.
