Peru Announces State of Emergency after Latest Violent Acts in Lima

On Tuesday, Peru’s president declared a state of emergency in the capital, ordering the deployment of soldiers to help police address the domestic escalations in the capital.

There is major violent tension in the capital after the killing of a popular singer.

President Dina Boluarte’s government declared a state of emergency for at least 30 days, and authorities will restrict some rights, including the freedom of assembly and movement.

Police reported 459 killings in less than 3 months and 1909 extortion reports in January alone. 

However, a huge outrage was sparked after the killing of Paul Flores, lead singer of the Armonia 10.

Flores was shot to death after attackers attacked the bus his band's bus while traveling after a concert in Lima.
